Are We Happy It’s September? Yes, Yes We Are

On Friday I went to the girls’ school’s back-to-school party. Which would have been great, but I have been so stressed out I’ve been forgetting to eat (weh, weh, tiny violins for SJ) so I was pretty hungry by the time we got there. I figured they’d feed people pretty quickly, but they didn’t ring the dinner bell til 6.

My big kid turned to me with a stricken look on her face and said, “Can we go? I’m tired of my hands being dirty.” Her face looked odd. I jumped up to my friend, who was at the head of the line and said, “We’re going, my kid is throwing a rod.” My friend sensibly suggested that she was just hungry, which she was, but we left.

And she looked much relieved. It came to me what the look was. It was the too many people look. We ended up at Kid Valley (great mommin FTW) and it was actually a good time. I heard later that the last group of people were served at 7:30, which is basically dark here now, so I think it worked out well.

There was some bloody fang action.

Followed by some copycattery in the form of non-bloody fang action.

Nice try, grasshopper.

Companion was out of town all weekend, which was fun lady timez, but also exhausting. I woke up Saturday morning to raw egg and dishtowel kitchen floor, with a melange of salt, so now I am the proud owner of a fridge lock. It’s amazing what they can get up to in the fifteen minutes between when they wake up and the big one starts yelling for me. Ay yi yi.

When Companion came back, I bravely did not disembowel him for leaving me alone with the savages, but instead made my first b’stila. It took forever, and I am sorry to say I didn’t feed my family til 7:30, which is bedtime, but it was great.

Franny made a plum upsidedown cake, which was not very good, but it was not her fault…it was the recipe. I would do this again, but use the cake batter for the pineapple one I made for Strudel’s birthday.

Also, this is really random, but I am serius. If you could cast a TV actress between 25-29 to play me in something, who would you cast?

  1. That b’stila looks scrumptious. I may have to try making that.

Yessss, Scarlett Johansson! I just saw Love Song for Bobby Long and loved her in it. Even though she played a teenager…

  2. Alyson Hannigan isn’t a bad idea. I don’t like ScarJo, but I don’t have a good reason.

Ooh, ooh! Kristen Bell! Adorable snark FTW! She probably wouldn’t look as good with pink hair as you do, but you can’t have everything.

  3. I don’t know enough about actresses. I guess I would always want Michelle Rodriguez to play me because she can kick ass.

And you seem as if you can also kick ass so perhaps Michelle Rodriguez?

Still reeling over the fact your bedtime is 7:30. Damn, you are so adult. And yet so much younger than I. From whence came these adult-like abilities?

  4. Isn’t kinda useless to suggest people with shows? Think of actresses on recently canceled shows. That Epic Fail show “Drive” on Fox aired like three episodes and had a cast of thousands. Maybe Taryn Manning? Or Firefly! WHAT ABOUT FIREFLY?

  5. I would say a 25-29 year old Janeane Garofalo (I know that’s cheating, but I’m old and can’t think of 25-29 y.o. that would do you justice.

  6. I wish I watched more TV so I had ideas. I just finished the 1st season of Ugly Betty on DVD, so all I can think of is people from there.

America Ferrera can’t do pink hair.

  7. I was thinking Hayley, but she might not be ghetto/punk-rock enough to play Ess-Jay. But, hey, WHO WOULDN’T leave one of those silly-ass Stargate spinoff shows to play you?

  8. And now I’m thinking it was Kayley. Or something. I was JUST on IMDB a couple hours ago looking this shit up.

  9. Busy Phillips. Cause she kicks ass. (the big blonde from Freaks & Geeks and that terrible show about the dating company office)
