It Is Important For You to Know

That someone is uploading Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather. You know, somehow I’m down with the giant space turtle and the four elephants, but I don’t understand how trillions of gallons of ocean can dump off the edge of the disc and be regenerated somewhere in the mountains. It’s a damn mystery! If you are not reading Terry Pratchett, I recommend you start with Going Postal. It’s not my favorite ever, but you can get a feel for his style and Discworld without feeling like you’re missing out on a bunch of backstory, because it’s kind of a stand-alone. I just read the entire Tiffany Aching series in opposite order, because these things happen sometimes. SO good! I can’t want until Franny is a year or so older, so she can pick them up. Squid, if you’re out there, Iz would love them. I know you’re busy.

Shatner remembers his legendary “Rock-it Man” performance in 1746. Why? Because I’m a completist, that’s WHY. Thanks Supa!

ANTM withdrawl? (Tits?) Try Cycle 7.5. It’s a little flash atrocity that, if it continues, with be equal parts parodic and moronic. Gaffled from fourfour.

Update! SCRANTON, WHAT? Lazy Scranton. So wrong. I pray that that Steve Carell becomes my next babydaddy. After Tucker Max, of course.

  1. That was the first one I read, years ago. I didn’t know who Pratchett was then, but I liked Sandman so someone got me that. And I never pursued Pratchett. I could kick myself that I wasn’t into him when I had all those long, lazy, kid-free afternoons.

  2. I was so bummed out when they didn’t play this in the U.S., and now you’ve made my day!
    Woo-hoo!!!
(How’s Silversmith? As good as the other two?)

  3. Oh, I had forgotten that I was going to get the sequel to Wee Free Men. I’m on a kind of kids’ book reading jag. (Just finished Rascal and Ronia, the Robber’s Daughter — both excellent!)

But, re: Pratchett. My favorites are Jingo (which is a little too fucking appropriate right now, I must say), The Truth, Thief of Time, Reaper Man and Small Gods. Most of those are standalone-ish. Even though Jingo is a Vimes book and Reaper Man is a Death book, you don’t really need much backstory to enjoy them.

  4. Doh! I have done that about a million times now, and I still can’t figure out why. It’s really not that hard to get right. WINtersmith.
    Oh, well.
And I agree. My favorite character on the DW is Granny Weatherwax, so anything she’s in is okay by me.

  5. I like Granny so much too. My letdown was that Nanny Ogg is dialed back a notch for the kids. And, SILVERsmith makes more sense. It’s a known word.

  6. Pratchett is the shit. Good Omens is on my top five books of all time list.

I’d have to say my favorite scene in any of his books has to be the one in Moving Pictures with the Librarian and the 50 foot woman.

Makes me giggle every time I think about it :)
